Hopkins Lloyd is proud to be the first Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership school and we are grateful for the commitment of our community partners. Our school, staff and students are continuously enriched by their ongoing gifts of time, services and resources, creativity and collaboration.

53206 Initiative

Through the MPS 53206 Initiative, Hopkins Lloyd Community School is able to better support our students, families and staff through improved early childhood teaching, mentoring, trauma support and other important services. Our staff members enjoy more opportunities to learn and use effective ways of teaching and supporting our students through all aspects of their lives. Our families have better access to quality childcare and trauma supports, including a Trauma Support Specialist in the school and access to mobile crisis units with a social worker, psychologist, school counselor and nurse.

Amani’s World

Amani’s World supports Hopkins Lloyd students ages 3-9 with structured childcare and fun activities that promote literacy, creativity and self-worth.

Arts @ Large

Arts @ Large offers our Hopkins Lloyd students opportunities to beautify our school and express themselves creatively through art projects and performance activities.

Children’s Wisconsin – Project Ujima

Project Ujima works to stop the cycle of violent crime by recognizing and addressing the needs of young victims of violence. Here at HLCS, Project Ujima hosts morning circles in 4th and 5th grade classrooms to teach students how to communicate with one another, talk about their trauma, share stories about themselves and their experiences, and build meaningful relationships between students and teachers.

COA Youth & Family Centers

COA Youth & Family Centers nurtures and supports our Hopkins Lloyd children and their families with after-school programming that focuses early education, child development, social and emotional health, and fun.

FAST (Families & Schools Together)

The FAST® Program was developed in 1988 in Madison by Dr. Lynn McDonald, a professor of social work and education researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to promote and nurture the potential of every child. FAST supports and empowers our parents and trains our school staff to partner with our families in support of their child’s education and well-being, creating a welcoming environment for all families.

Hephatha Lutheran Church

For more than 30 years, Hephatha Lutheran Church has uplifted the Hopkins Lloyd community with student and family supports that include performance space, Project Return (can link to the Project Return blurb on the Family Resources page), and staff and supplies for our Parent Resource Center and Strong Baby Sanctuary.

Hunger Task Force

Hunger Task Force supports our school and the Hopkins Lloyd community with no-cost fresh food, backpacks, school supplies and more.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money and more.

Marquette University Peace Works

By collaborating with the MU Service-Learning Program, our community partners help students apply their learning and gain invaluable hands-on experience. Students also learn about and reflect upon social injustices and ways they can “Be The Difference.” .” In return, community partners use the skills and talents of college students who are ready to help the partners meet their organizational needs. Marquette University Peace Works is a peace education and violence prevention program that increases young people’s capacity to identify and resolve conflicts nonviolently, using a distinct model of change, foundational practices and program components.

Milwaukee School of Engineering

MSOE offers Hopkins Lloyd students exciting opportunities to explore STEM activities in and out of our classrooms, to open their eyes to the importance of robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, 3-D printing, digital design and other exciting possibilities for their future.

MPD District 5

Community liaison and partnership officers from Milwaukee Police Department District 5 provide our students with a safe atmosphere, have conversations with them on what it means to be a police officer or first responder and encourage them to make positive choices throughout their lives.

MICAH (Milwaukee Inner-City Congregations Allied for Hope)

MICAH is a multiracial, interfaith organization committed to racial justice and equity, equity in education, addressing Milwaukee’s lead crisis, and making sure that all children feel welcomed, valued and safe in their schools, the community and at home.

Ampact Reading Corp

Reading Corps has been recognized by the Library of Congress for best practices in promoting literacy. Here at Hopkins Lloyd Community School, Reading Corps provides volunteer tutors who work one-on-one with our students who need extra help with their reading skills. Daily, 20-minute sessions keep students engaged and allow tutors to track their progress and achieve their goals.  

Safe and Sound

Safe & Sound is committed to building safe and empowered neighborhoods through safety and crime-prevention resources, health initiatives, community and youth services and more. Safe and Sound provides hygiene bags to Hopkins Lloyd Community School students and provides free haircuts to our young men. They also host Coffee with a Cop at our neighboring business Coffee Makes You Black, which members of our staff regularly attend.

United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County

As Milwaukee Public Schools’ primary Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership partner, United Way provides Hopkins Lloyd families with access to free dental and vision care, clothing and school supplies, and much more.

Walnut Way

HLCS is partnering with Dea Wright, director of the City of Milwaukee’s Office of Early Childhood Initiatives (OECI) and Walnut Way/Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Improvement District No. 12 to provide literacy tutoring school-wide. These partners will read books in classrooms, provide one-on-one tutoring in reading skills, and build relationships between teachers and students. They will also monitor students’ progress and partner with teachers to create capable and eager readers.
